Creativity and the Arts - Sgwrs Gelfyddydol: Open Space

The Arts Council is developing new ways of developing a dialogue with the many individuals and organisations that it both works with currently across Wales, and others where it wants to build greater connection.

It is paramount that we continue to promote a meaningful dialogue between ourselves and artists, the arts sector, participants, elected members, National Advisers, representative bodies and the audience members – not to mention listening to those who don’t currently engage with the arts as to what the barriers or turnoffs might be.

The Arts Council is revising both its corporate plan and its Arts Strategies. This programme of renewal has been given the title Creativity and the Arts.

It was launched in a session of our autumn 2012 conference Beyond the Obvious. The first round of the Sgyrsiau Celfyddydol coincide with the consultation period for these.

With this in mind the priority is to ensure that the first 4 Sgyrsiau Celfyddydol contribute to discussions around the future of the Arts in Wales. For this to happen, 4 Open Space sessions with the same subject will be scheduled for the latter half of February 2013 culminating on St David’s day.

  • 19th February – Venue Cymru, Llandudno
  • 25th February – Arad Goch, Aberystwyth
  • 27th February – Metropole, Abertillery
  • 1st March – Wales Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

The Open Space sessions are facilitated by Improbable Theatre Company.

What would you like to ask?

The overarching question for attendees at each session, who will be able to raise any related subject as a topic for open space debate, is:

What kind of creative Wales would you like to see by 2020 and how do we get there?

Discussions already happening

You can now download, view and comment on the reports presented in our events on our dedicated site http://sgwrsgelf.wordpress.com/

We have also asked the following individuals what they would like to be discussed, and what questions they would like answered in the Sgwrs Gelfyddydol events.
